What is Goobi?
Goobi is an open source software suite for controlling and presenting digitisation projects. It consists of the two core components Goobi workflow and Goobi viewer as well as a broad ecosystem of complementary tools and plug-ins.
Goobi is currently used in more than 80 institutions in 17 countries. In addition to libraries, museums and archives, these include ministries, research institutions, foundations and private companies.
Why do I need it?
Digitisation projects come in many shapes and sizes. No project is the same. Some projects seem simple, while others are vast in their scope and the challenges they pose.
Goobi makes the process of managing any kind of digitisation project much easier and simpler. By defining roles and responsibilities to everyone involved in the project, Goobi provides the tools to assign tasks, monitor processes and report progress for multiple projects of any size.
Goobi also becomes the location where digitised images are uploaded and stored while they are being processed.
But Goobi doesn’t just make the management of digitisation tasks easier. Goobi also becomes the location where digitised images are uploaded and stored while they are being processed. Goobi has tools for quality assessment, automated processes to deskew, resize and crop digitised images, and for metadata input.
When you’re ready to publish your digitisation project, Goobi has an integrated Viewer – a IIIF complaint image viewer to display content online and make it searchable and discoverable.
If you already have an online platform then Goobi can export the images in the file format you need, to the resolution you require, along with all the metadata.
Goobi can also package up your data ready for ingest in a digital preservation solution.
